Piano Lessons
Beginning to intermediate piano lessons are currently offered. No formal musical training is required. MusicWorks believes that a healthy balance of playing proficiency and music theory are essential to building the long-term skills required for a well-rounded musician. Playing any instrument takes dedication, practice, and a meticulous attention to detail that we encourage all of our students to demonstrate.
MusicWorks generally uses the Piano Adventures series by Faber for lesson instruction. We will often pull in supplemental resources to enhance the lesson books as well as to encourage learning and fun. Occasionally, manipulatives and games are played in the music lesson to encourage retention of concepts, note naming, and rhythm.
Preschool Piano Lessons
MusicWorks offers lessons for preschoolers from 3-5 years old using the Wunderkeys Preschool Method. With fun characters and a variety of games and activities, your child will learn the basics of piano such as pattern recognition, sense of rhythm, and beginning musical concepts. Voice Lessons
In voice lessons, students will learn proper vocal techniques, will learn a variety of song styles such as classical, Broadway, and folk songs, and will gain experience in sight reading music using Solfege syllables (Do Re Mi). We believe that each student has a unique style and personality, and MusicWorks allows each individual to express themselves by tailoring the music to fit their personalities.
Guitar Lessons
Beginning guitar lessons include learning how to care for the guitar, ways to tune the guitar, and playing the guitar with good technique. As students learn to read basic music notation and chord diagrams, they learn to play study pieces as well as solo pieces. Sight-reading and ear training are other skills that are explored in our lessons. Students also learn about good practice skills for fun daily practicing. Included, students will learn to understand what the music symbols mean through studying music theory. Some students discover that they enjoy learning to sing and play at the same time.
Drum Lessons
Drum set and percussion lessons are offered to students of all age and experience levels. Rock, Jazz, Blues, Latin, and classical percussion styles are all presented. Drum lessons consist of fun easy to grasp exercises to improve technique and creativity around the drums, as well as song based learning to raise students playing to the top of their abilities.
MusicWorks believes that every child is unique in their learning retention and consumption of musical concepts and skills. We do not believe in a concrete age at which to begin lessons, but most students are able to begin lessons between 5 and 6 years old. Our studio has taught students from 3 to 70 years old.
